Spellting Stars is an excellent way for independent students to take exams since it's personalized, self-paced and completely student driven. Students that need more time to complete a test often receive it in a variety of formats such as flash cards or workbooks, but can always complete it faster by using the star system. Also, teachers will no longer need to grade tests by hand with the stars grading system.
The spelling stars interface is very straight forward and easy to use. I especially like that they allow the user to select from various pre-requisites for the various tests available. For instance, for the MBE and TOEFL tests you will need to have taken at least one year of English, or English as a Second Language. You can also select to take one particular subject only, one grammar book only, one reading book only, or many other options.
Once you have selected what tests you wish to take, you will be prompted with a list of questions. You can switch between several different screens by clicking on the appropriate icon. My favorite feature is the "saved test" option. This allows you to save your current spelling check, as well as any improvements you may have made to your spelling during the past year. If you don't want to use a saved test, you have the option to generate a letter, number, word or passage on the fly. The Spelling Star interface is easy to navigate, yet still provides all the features and options that a regular word processor would.
Online spelling games are another way to get help with spelling. Much like the spelling tests, you will need to have an internet connection. Most spelling games will require a Gmail account. Otherwise, you will be unable to save your progress. Many internet connection gaming websites are free, and a great way to improve your internet usage skills.
I am by no means encouraging you to spend hours playing online spelling games. It is very easy to become addicted, especially if you like the theme of the game. Just think about all the hours you would have to put in if you were to become an avid user of spell check. Not to mention, your spare time would probably be better spent doing things that you enjoy. But the important thing is that you learn to spell!
If you do decide to learn some additional spelling skills, there are many places where you can learn more. Some of these include: magazines, books, TV shows, and the web. All of these offer a variety of learning opportunities. Just make sure to take the time to determine which one(s) will be most beneficial to your specific needs.
It is also important to remember that everyone learns at their own pace. You may have difficulty with a particular skill right now, but it may be easier for you at a later time. Just because you have reached a plateau in your skills does not mean that you should give up. In fact, it may be time to try something new.
Another great way to improve your spelling skills is to find an online spelling check program. These programs provide you with an excellent choice of games to improve your skills. For example, you may choose to build your vocabulary or even participate in spelling bee competitions. As you participate in these activities, you will learn new words and improve your word confidence. As you work on these activities, you will find that your spelling will improve steadily.
A third way to improve your skills is to participate in a spelling check competition. Similar to the previously mentioned activity, you will find that this activity will help you develop your word confidence as well as improve your spelling skills. Again, you may want to consult with a professional spelling check company in order to determine which tournaments and competitions are best for your particular skill level.
You can use a combination of these techniques to improve your skills. Also, keep in mind that all of these methods will take some time to implement. As you begin to learn to spell, keep a short list of your errors in hand and begin to correct them one at a time. As you progress, you may find that you need to take some additional time and effort to improve your skills. However, once you reach a certain point, you will find that you can no longer wait and you will begin to look forward to taking some more time to practice your spellings.
Hopefully, now you have a few tips on improving your spelling. You can begin to practice your spelling's on paper before going out and practicing on a regular basis. Also, keep in mind that these are only a few tips and there is really no right or wrong way to spell. In fact, there are more tips that will help you improve your spelling than there are ways to spell!
